Instructions for Windows Media Player

Don't worry, this is easy!

First of all, if all you need to do is move the media player out of the way, skip to the paragraph below labelled "moving the player out of the way."

If, however, another application is playing the audio file in a whole new window that can't be made smaller and moved out of the way, then do the following:

Open Windows Media Player on your computer (by going to START, then ALL PROGRAMS, - and see it there on the list and click on it).

The goal is going to be to find the "file types" area and put a check mark at mp3.

Where to find this area differs depending on which version of Windows Media Player you have. If your computer is a bit older, you probably have Windows Media Player 10 (see below).

For Windows Media Player 11, once Windows Media Player is opened, go to "more options," which can be found on the little pull-down list when you click on the tiny arrow that appears inside any of the tabs at the top, for example, "library," when you hover over it with the mouse. After clicking on "more options," go to the "file types" tab, and then just put a check mark in the box corresponding to mp3's, and hit "ok."

If you don't see the little arrow when hovering over the "library" tab, you probably have an earlier version of Windows Media Player, such as version 10.

For Windows Media Player 10, the "options" is found in a drop down menu from clicking on the "tools" tab at the very top of the whole screen, or "tools" found in the drop down menu from the innermost little arrow at the upper right corner. After clicking on "options," go to the "file types" tab, and then just put a check mark in the box corresponding to mp3's, and hit "ok."

Basically, your just telling Windows Media Player to play mp3's.

Moving the player out of the way: When you click on a speaker's name to here my voice, Windows Media Player will open up, possibly full screen, and play. If that happens, just go to the lower right corner of the Windows Media Player box and and click on the tiny icon (looks like a tiny arrow pointing down onto a dash line) that will "switch to compact mode." Now you can move it down to a side of your screen and out of the way.

Then, continue with the recordings, and it will just play while you are reading the dialogues.
